Description

A fun, sweet, and chewy bubble tea made with homemade boba pearls and rich brown sugar syrup. This homemade version gives you full control over the sweetness and texture, creating a truly refreshing and indulgent drink.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • For the Brown Sugar Syrup:
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • For the Homemade Boba Pearls:
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 cup Tapioca flour
  • For the Tea:
  • Black tea (or your favorite tea of choice)
  • Milk (whole milk, oat milk, or almond milk)
  • Ice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Brown Sugar Syrup:
In a saucepan, combine ½ cup brown sugar with ½ cup water. Heat over medium, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves. Simmer for 2-3 minutes, then set aside to cool.
  2. Make the Boba Pearls:
In a saucepan, combine 1 cup water and ½ cup brown sugar. Heat until the sugar dissolves. Stir in tapioca flour to create a dough. Knead until smooth and elastic, then let it rest for 10 minutes. Divide the dough into small pieces and roll into marble-sized balls.
  3. Cook the Boba Pearls:
Bring a pot of water to boil. Add boba pearls in batches and boil for 15-20 minutes until tender and floating. Transfer to a bowl of brown sugar syrup to soak for a few minutes.
  4. Brew the Tea:
Brew your black tea and let it cool to room temperature.
  5. Assemble the Brown Sugar Bubble Tea:
Add boba pearls to a glass. Pour cooled tea over the pearls and fill the glass about three-quarters full. Add ice, if desired. Top with milk of choice and stir. Drizzle extra brown sugar syrup on top for added sweetness.
  6. Serve and Enjoy:
Stir the bubble tea and enjoy with a wide straw!

Notes

  • The boba pearls can be made in advance and stored in syrup for up to 2 days.
  • For a stronger flavor, brew the tea more robustly since the brown sugar syrup adds sweetness.
  • You can use different types of milk, including oat, almond, or coconut milk, for varied flavors.
