Description

A mouthwatering twist on the classic Chicken Cordon Bleu. Tender chicken breasts are stuffed with ham and Swiss cheese, then smothered in a rich, creamy sauce that makes each bite irresistible. This dish is perfect for a family dinner or special occasion!

Ingredients

Units Scale

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices of ham
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the chicken: Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Stuff the chicken: Place a slice of ham and a slice of Swiss cheese on each chicken breast, then roll it up and secure with toothpicks.
  4. Cook the chicken: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Brown the chicken on all sides (about 4-5 minutes per side). Transfer the chicken to a baking dish and set aside.
  5. Make the sauce: In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add the chicken broth, Dijon mustard, and heavy cream. Stir to combine, and bring to a simmer. Add thyme, Parmesan cheese, and additional salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Bake the chicken: Pour the creamy sauce over the chicken in the baking dish. Place it in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked (internal temperature should reach 165°F).
  7. Serve: Remove the toothpicks from the chicken and garnish with fresh parsley. Serve with mashed potatoes or a side salad.

Notes

  • You can use other types of cheese like mozzarella or cheddar, but Swiss cheese gives it the authentic flavor.
  • For a lighter version, you can use half-and-half instead of heavy cream.
