Description

Delmonico Potatoes are a classic, creamy, and cheesy side dish that’s perfect for family gatherings or weeknight dinners. This easy-to-make recipe combines tender potatoes with a rich cheese sauce, baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 cups frozen hash brown potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 cup crushed cornflakes or potato chips (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Prepare the Mixture:
    • In a large bowl, combine the frozen hash browns, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, sour cream, cream of chicken soup, melted butter, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  3. Assemble the Casserole:
    • Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  4. Add Topping (Optional):
    • If using, sprinkle the crushed cornflakes or potato chips evenly over the top of the casserole for added crunch.
  5. Bake:
    • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
    • After 45 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is bubbly.
  6. Serve:
    • Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your cheesy Delmonico potatoes!

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, consider adding a small can of diced green chilies to the mixture.
  • This dish can be prepared ahead of time. Assemble the casserole, cover it, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute the cream of chicken soup with cream of mushroom soup.
