Scale
- For the steak:
- 1 lb (450g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- For the stir-fry:
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
- For the sauce:
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup beef broth (or water)
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch (mixed with 2 tbsp water)
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
Instructions
- Marinate the beef: In a bowl, mix the sliced steak with soy sauce, cornstarch, sesame oil, and black pepper. Let it marinate for 10–15 minutes while you prepare the vegetables.
- Heat the pan: In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Cook the beef: Add the marinated beef to the pan and sear for 2–3 minutes until browned. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- Stir-fry the vegetables: In the same pan, add the bell peppers, onion, garlic, and ginger. Stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until slightly tender.
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, beef broth, oyster sauce, cornstarch slurry, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes.
- Combine everything: Return the beef to the pan and pour in the sauce. Stir well and cook for 2–3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and veggies.
- Serve: Remove from heat and serve hot over steamed rice or noodles. Enjoy!
Notes
- For extra tenderness, use flank steak and slice it against the grain.
- Swap bell peppers for mushrooms, snap peas, or carrots for variety.
- Adjust spice levels by adding more red pepper flakes or a splash of chili oil.
- Leftovers store well in the fridge for up to 3 days—great for meal prep!
