Description

These Easy Small Batch Ciabatta Rolls are simple, delicious, and perfect for those who want the joy of homemade bread without baking a whole loaf. With a crispy, golden crust and soft, airy interior, these rolls are perfect for sandwiches, snacks, or as an accompaniment to any meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Rolls:

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Instant yeast
  • 3/4 cup Warm water
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar

For the Optional Steam (for a crispy crust):

  • 1 small dish of water

Instructions

Step 1: Mix the Dough
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar. Add the warm water and olive oil, and stir until the mixture forms a dough. The dough will be slightly sticky.

Step 2: Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough feels too sticky, add a tiny bit more flour, but don’t overdo it. The dough should remain soft and slightly tacky.

Step 3: First Rise
Place the dough into a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot for about an hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 4: Shape the Rolls
Once risen, punch the dough down gently. Turn it onto a floured surface and divide it into four equal portions. Shape each into a rough rectangle.

Step 5: Second Rise
Place the shaped rolls onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover loosely and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Step 6: Bake
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Once the rolls have risen, place them in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden and the rolls sound hollow when tapped.

Step 7: Cool and Serve
Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack for 5-10 minutes. Enjoy while warm!

Notes

  • To achieve a crispier crust, place a small dish of water in the oven while baking.
  • Handle the dough gently to keep the air bubbles intact for a light, airy texture.
  • If you want a richer flavor, replace olive oil with melted butter.
