Garlic Swirl Rolls are soft, fluffy, and packed with savory garlic butter flavor. These homemade rolls are a perfect side dish for any meal or a delicious addition to your bread basket. The garlic butter swirls inside the rolls create a beautiful, flavorful pattern that melts in your mouth with each bite!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for garlic butter)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Stir to dissolve, then sprinkle the yeast over the top. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, eggs, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add 3 1/2 cups of flour, one cup at a time, stirring after each addition until a dough begins to form. If needed, add the remaining flour, a little at a time, until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl and forms a soft, slightly sticky dough.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  6. While the dough is rising, prepare the garlic butter by combining the softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Set aside.
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll the dough into a large rectangle (about 12×18 inches).
  8. Spread the garlic butter evenly over the surface of the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  9. Roll the dough up tightly into a log, starting from the long edge. Slice the dough into 12 equal pieces and place the rolls into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  10. Cover the rolls with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise again for about 30 minutes, or until they have doubled in size.
  11. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  12. Bake the rolls for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  13. If desired, sprinkle the baked rolls with Parmesan cheese while they are still warm.
  14. Serve warm, and enjoy the fluffy, garlicky goodness!

Notes

  • For extra garlic flavor, you can brush the rolls with more garlic butter after baking.
  • You can make the dough ahead of time and refrigerate it overnight. Simply punch it down after the first rise and cover it with plastic wrap before refrigerating. Let it come to room temperature before rolling it out.
  • These rolls also freeze well! Once cooled, wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and freeze for up to 3 months.
