Scale
- For the Bacon Rolls:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup cooked bacon, crumbled (about 6 slices)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (for rolling)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir to form a dough. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic. - Let the Dough Rise:
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size. - Prepare the Bacon:
Cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Drain on paper towels and crumble into small pieces. - Roll Out the Dough:
Punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick. - Add Bacon and Sugar:
In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon (if using). Sprinkle this mixture over the dough, followed by the crumbled bacon. - Roll and Slice:
Roll the dough into a log and slice into 8-10 even pieces. Arrange the rolls in a greased 9×9-inch baking dish, leaving space between them. - Let the Rolls Rise:
Cover the dish with a towel and let the rolls rise for 30-45 minutes until puffed. - Bake the Rolls:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 18-20 minutes, until golden brown. - Make the Glaze:
Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl. - Glaze the Rolls and Serve:
Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls before serving.
Notes
- You can make these rolls ahead of time by preparing them up to the point of baking, then refrigerating them overnight. Let them come to room temperature before baking.
- For extra bacon flavor, brush the dough with melted butter before adding the sugar and bacon mixture.
