- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 1/4 cup diced fresh jalapeños (seeds removed for less heat)
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter, shredded cheddar, and Monterey Jack cheese.
- Add in the diced jalapeños and green onions, then mix well.
- Add the egg and milk to the cheese mixture, then gradually add the flour mixture. Stir until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the cheese squares cool for a few minutes before slicing into squares.
Notes
- For extra heat, leave the jalapeño seeds in.
- You can substitute the Monterey Jack cheese with any other mild cheese of your choice.
- These squares can be served warm or at room temperature.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
