Description

Pig Shots are savory, smoky, and packed with flavor. Made from sausage wrapped in bacon and topped with a creamy cheese mixture, these bite-sized appetizers are perfect for parties, BBQs, or any gathering. They’re sure to be a crowd favorite!

Ingredients

Scale

  • Bacon strips (preferably thick-cut): 8-10 strips (cut in half for wrapping)
  • Breakfast sausage: 1 lb (about 450g)
  • Cream cheese (softened): 8 oz (1 block)
  • Shredded cheddar cheese: 1/2 cup
  • Green onions (finely chopped): 2-3 stalks
  • Jalapeños (optional for a spicy kick): 1-2, finely chopped (optional)
  • BBQ rub (your favorite seasoning mix): 1-2 tbsp (to sprinkle on top, optional)
  • Toothpicks: 12-16 (depending on the number of servings)

Instructions

  1. Preheat smoker, grill, or oven to 375°F (190°C). Cut bacon strips in half for easier wrapping.
  2. Shape the breakfast sausage into small rings, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter.
  3. In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, chopped green onions, and optional jalapeños until smooth.
  4. Wrap bacon around each sausage ring, securing with toothpicks. Fill the center of each with the cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle with BBQ rub for extra flavor.
  5. Cook in the smoker, grill, or oven for 25-30 minutes, until bacon is crispy and sausage is fully cooked.
  6. Let cool for a few minutes, then serve warm.

Notes

  • Thick-cut bacon works best to hold everything together.
  • You can prepare these ahead of time and refrigerate before cooking.
  • Full-fat cream cheese adds extra richness to the filling.
