Description

These Savory Ham and Cheese Butter Biscuits are the perfect balance of fluffy, buttery, and cheesy goodness. Made with tender chunks of ham, sharp cheddar cheese, and a buttery, flaky biscuit base, they are ideal for breakfast, brunch, or a satisfying snack. Serve them warm with a spread of butter, or enjoy them on their own—either way, they’ll disappear fast!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced cooked ham
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh chives (optional)
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing, optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat & Prep

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Step 3: Incorporate Butter

  1. Add the cold cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4: Add Wet Ingredients

  1. Pour in the buttermilk and stir until just combined.
  2. Fold in the shredded cheese, diced ham, and chives (if using).

Step 5: Shape the Biscuits

  1. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently pat it to about ¾-inch thickness.
  2. Use a biscuit cutter (or a glass) to cut out biscuits and place them on the baking sheet.
  3. Re-roll any scraps and cut additional biscuits.

Step 6: Bake to Perfection

  1. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
  2. Brush with melted butter as soon as they come out of the oven for extra flavor.

Step 7: Serve & Enjoy

  1. Let the biscuits cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!

Notes

  • No buttermilk? Use ¾ cup milk + 1 tsp vinegar or lemon juice, let sit for 5 minutes.
  • For extra cheesiness, sprinkle a little shredded cheese on top before baking.
  • Store leftover biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days or refrigerate for up to a week. Reheat in the oven for best results.
