Description

These Sweet & Sour Noodles offer a perfect balance of tangy, sweet, and savory flavors. With tender noodles wrapped in a vibrant, flavorful sauce made of soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, and ketchup, this dish is quick, easy, and customizable for any taste preference. Perfect for a weeknight dinner or as a side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Noodles (egg noodles, rice noodles, or spaghetti)
  • 3 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp Rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Ketchup
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 Bell pepper (red or yellow, sliced)
  • 1 Onion (sliced)
  • 2 Green onions (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp Sesame oil
  • Optional add-ins: Tofu, chicken, or shrimp

Instructions

  1. Cook the Noodles: Cook noodles according to package instructions. Drain and toss with sesame oil to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the Veggies: Slice the bell pepper, onion, and green onions. Prepare your protein (tofu, chicken, or shrimp) if adding, and cook separately.
  3. Make the Sweet & Sour Sauce: In a bowl, mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and ketchup. Stir until sugar dissolves.
  4. Sauté the Veggies: Heat sesame oil in a skillet or wok. Sauté garlic and onion for 2-3 minutes, then add bell pepper and cook for 2 more minutes.
  5. Combine Noodles & Sauce: Add noodles to the skillet, pour over the sauce, and toss to combine. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until noodles are evenly coated.
  6. Serve and Garnish: Serve in bowls, garnished with chopped green onions. Add sesame seeds or crushed peanuts for extra crunch if desired.

Notes

  • Customize the sweetness or tang by adjusting the amount of sugar or vinegar.
  • For a heartier meal, add tofu, chicken, or shrimp as protein.
  • Use tamari or coconut aminos for a gluten-free version.
