Scale
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- Melted butter (for brushing on top)
- Optional: Extra sugar (for sprinkling on top)
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: Heat milk until it’s warm (about 110°F). Stir in yeast and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs. Stir until the dough begins to form, adding more flour if too sticky.
- Knead the Dough: Turn dough out onto a floured surface. Knead for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Let the Dough Rise: Place dough in an oiled bowl. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Rolls: Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Second Rise: Cover rolls and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake the Rolls: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Butter the Rolls: Brush with melted butter and sprinkle extra sugar for sweetness.
- Serve: Serve warm with honey butter.
Notes
- Room Temperature Ingredients: Let the butter and eggs come to room temperature for a smoother dough.
- Don’t Overmix the Dough: Mix until the dough comes together, but don’t overwork it to avoid tough rolls.
- Use a Warm Place for Rising: If your kitchen is cold, let the dough rise in the oven with the light on.
