Description

If you love crispy shrimp with a sweet and spicy kick, then this Bang Bang Shrimp recipe is going to be your new favorite! It’s the perfect appetizer, snack, or main dish, and it comes together in no time with just a handful of ingredients. Trust me, you’ll be craving it every week!

Ingredients

Scale
  • Shrimp: 1 lb (peeled and deveined)
  • Cornstarch: 1/4 cup
  • Buttermilk: 1/2 cup
  • Flour: 1/2 cup
  • Mayonnaise: 1/2 cup
  • Sweet chili sauce: 1/4 cup
  • Sriracha (optional for extra heat): 1-2 teaspoons (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shrimp:
Peel and devein the shrimp if necessary, then pat them dry with paper towels. This helps the coating stick and gives you crispy shrimp.
  2. Make the Coating:
In one bowl, whisk together flour and cornstarch. In another bowl, pour in buttermilk. Dip each shrimp into the buttermilk, then dredge in the flour/cornstarch mixture.
  3. Fry the Shrimp:
Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat (aim for around 350°F). Fry the shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden and crispy. Remove the shrimp from the pan and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  4. Make the Bang Bang Sauce:
In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise with sweet chili sauce and sriracha (optional) for added heat. Adjust the amount of chili sauce and sriracha to taste.
  5. Toss the Shrimp in the Sauce:
Once the shrimp are fried and crispy, place them in a bowl. Pour the Bang Bang sauce over them and toss gently to coat each shrimp with the creamy, spicy sauce.
  6. Serve and Enjoy:
Serve immediately, garnished with green onions or cilantro. This dish is great on its own or served with rice, a fresh salad, or in tacos.

Notes

  • Frying Tip: Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying; around 350°F is ideal for crispy shrimp.
  • Extra Crispy Option: Double-coat the shrimp by dipping them in buttermilk and flour twice before frying.
  • Sauce Tip: For a spicier sauce, add more sriracha or cayenne pepper.
  • Baked Version: To bake, coat the shrimp as directed and bake at 400°F for 12-15 minutes until crispy.
